  1. The PC Magazine LAN benchmark program is used to provide
  2. the network load conditions and to obtain timing results.
  3. The TIMED test (T on the menu) is run on one workstation
  4. and load conditions are imposed using this program running
  5. on one or more workstations.

  7. Menu options 1, 2, and 3 run LOAD 1, 2, and 3 respectively.
  8. The first two create their own workfiles.  LOAD 3 uses a
  9. common set of files which are created using menu item B,
  10. Build data base simulation files.  Load workstations must
  11. be started before the TIMED test.

  13. The setup menu (S on the menu) allows test parameters to be
  14. changed.  Parameters can be saved in a file from this menu.
  15. The parameters from this file are loaded when this program
  16. is run.

  18. The file and record sizes used by the TIMED test can be set
  19. from the setup menu (S on the menu).  This must be done
  20. BEFORE the TIMED test is run.

  22. File and record sizes can be specified while a trailing K
  23. or M for kilobytes or megabytes resprectively.  Record sizes
  24. for the TIMED test can be specified to the byte level.  The
  25. tests are reported in the order specified and up to 8 record
  26. sizes can be listed.

  28. Temporary and data base files must be placed on a network
  29. disk.  This can be done by running this program from the
  30. network or by specifying the appropriate drive letter in
  31. the file name.  The file names can be changed through the
  32. setup menu.  Path names can also be included.  Temporary files
  33. should end in XXXXX as in TMPXXXXX.

  35. Test results are placed into two files.  The text file is
  36. suitable for printing or typeing while comma seperated variable
  37. file can be read directly into most spreadsheet programs.
  38. The files include additional items such as LAN name which can
  39. be changed from the setup menu.

  41. Options are saved in the file PCMAGLAN.ARG.  This is a text
  42. file which can be changed using most text editors.  Each line
  43. contains a single option and the order must be preserved.
